as the essays go on, you can feel Serwer losing more and more patience with the disappointment that has been American democracy during and after the first Trump presidency. i appreciate that Adam doesn't let ANYONE off the hook, including his political contemporaries/peers, it indicates he cannot be bought, and he is capable of providing nuance. i feel that this is the kind of journalism i have been craving.

i've been trying to engage with more nonfiction texts about topics that interest me, to better sophisticate my worldview and politic. after a while, you get tired of shallowly moving through what you already know. i've been enjoying reading this book, which feels strange to say when you consider the subject matter, but Serwer has an eloquent way with words. i'm slowly slogging through, but i'm retaining it all.

getting dense, but i'm learning so much. to think it isn't as bad as i thought it was, it's actually WORSE . . .
