Stuff like... lobster fishery? Or sustainability? I grew up with fishermen with leathery faces doing it old school, leaving their wooden traps to dry on the beach, possibly something you saw in Portugal as well, and things have changed quite a bit since then. While I knew that bigger boats went out to sea nowadays, and with better gear, I realized early on in this book that I hadn't been paying attention for the longest time. The whole economy around lobster has completely changed.
