Plot is finally picking up (maybe?), but still very flat in terms of characters and emotion. I don't know how book one did such a good romance, and book two is so completely lacking emotional at all??? I'm trying to get through it, but I didn't have this much trouble with the Blackbeard story and that was a right mess.

This is so flat and boring compared to book 1. Where did all the emotion go? I don't feel the romance, I don't feel the fear/horror from the villains anymore either. I felt a tiny bit of fear when a human girl appeared, because the fae king might kill & trap her like he did other humans in book 1. But other than that, no emotional response to this book at all.

There is SO MUCH TELLING to start this novel off. I would rather have had a flat out recap to cover the previous novel - it could have been written like one of Serilda's fairytales. I would rather that than pausing every few minutes to explain who is this character, what did they do last novel, and everything they've done in the weeks/months in between novel 1 and 2 ._.
