My theory is the fates are in fact never wrong. Robin as head mistress probably gets to see all the students fates the night before Boxing Day or something and saw that Barbies fate was to go on an adventure which is probably similar to her moms. This probably scared robin so she messed with the machine so Barbie didn’t have a fate which ultimately pushed her to go on an adventure anyway
