Others will be hurt. And there are always two sides to the story. You are not the only one dreaming. The other side can do the same to you.

The title of the first German translation "Gefährliche Geliebte" (dangerous lover) gives away the story. Too much? Hajime falls into a perilous maelstrom when he meets his childhood friend Shimamoto again after 25 years. His happy family life suddenly appears empty, while his father-in-law talks about men having affairs at his age.

Reading the old German translation from the English version. It was could enough to cause the fallout in the Literary Quartet, should be good enough for me.
An early Murakami. Some elements are already there like the narrator's fascination for limping women, jazz and classical music. No weird world building though.
