Scribblescribe Yeah I feel like I have a much better grasp of astronomy but if I were you I would go for a book with pics to illustrate stuff because this one explains everything in words and that makes it a lot harder than it needs to be.

Scribblescribe also it is somewhat outdated. I currently am reading the 3rd edition which is from 2004. I think the fourth edition is only from 2007. You may want a more modern book to explain the basics but I would be careful because a lot of books just help you stargaze and this book explains the entire makeup of the universe. That's what you want to start off with. A baseline understanding of everything.
