Geirmund has traveled with Guthrum to England during the passage Rek had a quarrel as he believed Geirmund is from Helheim. Geirmund surrendered to the sea and nearly drowned but was saved by the mythical smith Volund who saved him as he saved his father’s father’s father. Volund then gifts him an arming and sends him back to the realm of the living on the shores of east anglia.

Starts off with the protagonist and his brother on a hunting venture gone wrong. We learn about how the protagonist has a ropey relationship with his father and plans to go to England without his blessing and the relationship between brothers at the present is fractured. Geirmund and his companions are now sailing to concur Saxon lands
