Read quite a bit of this yesterday after finishing the Pargin book I was reading. I’m liking it and the plot went in a direction which surprised me, but the main thing I want to say is that several characters use the word “Iddint” for “Isn’t”, which is a linguistic tic I have never seen in print before, though it’s very real. I catch myself saying it all the time, though I think of it as “Itn’t”.

There was a scene where Sharon’s mom sneers that she (Sharon) has always thought she was better than the rest of the family in Kentucky, even when she was little, and that she is a spoiled brat and a mistake. The particulars are different, but this nevertheless hit a nerve for me.

I do think this is a very good book & it will likely make my top 10 for the year, if not top 5, but I don’t know if I can rate it 5 stars. There are certainly moments that resonate, in the language used and the humanness the emotion/action, but I don’t know if I would consider it sustained enough across the whole to achieve five stars from me. (But I’m pretty stingy with 5s, so maybe that’s not saying much.)

Odesa and I recently read a junior grade novel series called FART QUEST, the main character of which was nicknamed Fart. In this book, there is also a character who is nicknamed Fart. How many books have YOU read with a character named Fart?
