Finished first two parts, In the Land of our Forefathers and Beginnings. The author is a great story gatherer & teller, telling stories of real people in a compelling and very readable way. And she has an enlightened historic view on the Great Migration which is new to me. The horrors of the lives of descendants of slaves is unimaginable in the twentieth century, with good reason to leave the oppression of Jim Crow.

Very well written and good storytelling about life in the Deep South in the early 20th century for the African-American children of former slaves. Brutal life.
