Unfortunately they just want to act like that, so they do. The book went over a lot of the tropes of an abusive man “the victim” “the gaslighter” “the controller” etc and explains that a lot of abusers like to blame their parents/childhood, a terrible ex, addiction, or poor mental health but there’s no real proof that those experiences make you an abuser. The book really emphasized that it’s his choice to hurt you and it’s your responsibility to look out for the warning signs and leave as soon as possible. In conclusion, men choose to be abusive and we spend too much time blaming their survivors rather than shaming them for sucking
