I think this boy stayed true to previous Jilly Cooper books, in terms of multiple story lines and characters, I think the irritating thing for me was the constant "songs" made for the soccer games... It didn't add value to the story for me and was sometimes tedious to read.
It does make me want to go back and read Riders and the whole series from the start though.
