James Herbert’s flawed iconic and quite short masterpiece of a gore fest says more about 1970s grimy London than rats. A re-read 50 years after I first read it and still fairly entertaining although possibly more from a nostalgia point of view. Oh those long lost halcyon days of casual racism, sexism and homophobia when men were men and women were glad of it.
