So satisfying and funny to see the facade slipping. Russell’s gentile demeaner breaking during the debate as he buries his head into the sand was so worth it. Man acted holier than thou and elitest all book and now he’s whining like a brat

Wow moderates used to actually create compromise and consensus?? I thought there only purpose was to say “Sorry we can’t give you healthcare. We have children in the Middle East to kill”

Caro characterizes southern Senators as if they were Eldridge gods with unquestionable hold over the Senate and the country. No wonder it took a devil to beat them.

Seeing the pragmatic and level headed LBJ become absolutely delusional during the 56, while ironic and hilarious, has a weird forboding to it. I really hope Caro finishes the 5th book because legit every choice this man makes leads to Vietnam

Ok jokes aside "The Compassion of Lyndon Johnson" is the greatest chapter of non-fiction I have ever read. Caro's ability to depict LBJ's penchant for cruelty and empathy is otherworldly. In a span of paragraphs you will jump from thinking "LBJ was as much of a racist piece of shit as the rest of them" to "all along he was the only amongst them who cared. their tears were his tears. our plight was his plight"

There was have only been two yes two good Supreme Court justices to ever sit the bench. The rest should either have been tarred and feather whenever they stepped out in public or [redacted]
