Chapter 4 was a great way to set the basis for Sprinkle’s arguments regarding leadership, and how that was represented in the early church

I like the literary analysis he does on the use of contrast in the gospels. Summing up his findings in the phrase: “women’s presence in place of man’s absence”. For the most part, women are shown as examples of the virtuous traits that men lacked in the gospel narrative.

After chapter 2, I would’ve loved a deeper discussion on male leadership in the Old Testament priesthood. Sprinkle dismisses the need for further investigation due to the new covenant. However, this argument has a covenantal underpinning, and for those who do not hold to covenantal theology, it would’ve been nice to dive deeper into that.

Just got through the introduction, and I’m a huge fan so far of Sprinkle’s honesty about his assumptions and biases going into this exploration. Also like the angle to which this novel will go into. As a scholar who is going on an exploration rather than someone asserting their viewpoint.
