This book is simultaneously worse and better then the first book. It is worse because it has decided that there doesn’t need to be anymore character development for Conrad’s crew. Basically they are all best friends. This book is better because the things that actually matter to the world are happening, it is not just Conrad figuring out his life. There is still a lot of that but a little less.

This book is so… I can’t quite find the right word to describe it, because it is generic but also isn’t. I like this book more then I should. Recently Conrad’s uncle tried to take his ship away. This lead to Conrad having to duel with him to win it back. I think what happened here was the author decided that there had not been enough duels in this book so he made up a situation that “needed” one.

This book feels to me like the type of book we’re nothing truly bad ever happens. For example the main characters (Conrad and the crew of his flying boat) might get taken prisoner but when they break free easily Because of this I was surprised when this book went full tragic back story mode for one of the characters. It was not that dark, but definitely darker then I expected from this book.

So far I like this book. In my opinion the best way to describe it is to say that it is a very very generic ya dystopian book where the main character has very strong moral believes. This book is really predictable and basic in the best way possible!!! I liked the first book in this series and I am really excited to see how Conrad (the main character) takes down his uncle and build a relationship with his sister.
