It is uneven, disordered, distorted, unwieldy, both incredibly good and shockingly bad, profoundly interesting and deathly dull. It’s meant to be difficult, and it also just doesn’t work in parts.

Maybe it’s what one should expect from a novel of madness, or a mad novel.

The structure is both what it needs to be, and also a cheap trick.
