Why would Zooey hide being bisexual, other for it to be a shock for the audience. If you're main character is telling the story, actually recounting it like a letter, and he's admiting murder, satanism, abuse, why would being bisexual, when he's already admitted he likes boys, be his grand admission? Why!! How is him liking girls anything other than a fact kept from the audience for shock value?

I'm not too sure this book actually knows what it wants to be.

It's a great start. All of the characters have a distinct voices, and the story is starting off both interesting and mysterious. Loving it.
