Marion said, verbatim, "You can't stay in a job if you hate your manager."

After we met, I sent her copies of my performance reviews, and she zeroed right in on how Marion negged me about enthusiasm and energy when I'd returned from mat leave.
She pointed out how subjective the read - Was this how Google operated? she asked me.

"When someone has challenges with their manager it can work to proactively propose quality time, out of the office." Maybe Marion and I could go for manicures, he offered, coffee, or drinks?
"As I mentioned earlier, Marion and I aren't in the same office," I replied
"Right", he replied. "It can be super challenging to communicate through differences remotely."
Manicures? But the quotes are artful.

"I always forgot Marion, the rosy-cheeked British girl with blond hair, was a woman of color, but she technically was: Her mother was Jamaican."
Oh no

She (Susan) was adamant that YouTube's culture be different, that women had equal treatment, were safe from harassment (in that same meeting, she later blushed and gushed about sitting at Harvey Weinstein's table at the Oscars the previous weekend - this was a few months before the start of #MeToo)
So 1) she didn't know about Weinstein at the time, and 2) "blushed and gushed", really?

My "empathy" only extended upward to the executives, not inward.
