So... 10 chapters in. My first crime / thriller book. Interesting so far, likeable and relatable main character, compelling sub story of an Albanian woman escaping her trafficker at Gatwick airport. Looking forward to seeing how the tension and mystery grows and whether the pacing picks up a little in the next 10 or so chapters

So apparently this book is contemporary fiction and not meant to be a thriller as I had first assumed. It does have a bit of a mystery element running through the whole narrative (in terms of the Albanian character Anja) but it is particularly slow in pace and plot and still the language and speech is not very well written, very basic in fact. I am still enjoying the life studies of the various characters though

The biggest issue this author has is how to write good and compelling speech and conversation. I get that Anja is Albanian so her English probably isn't that great but even the English characters speech is not written well. It's not so much that it distracts completely from the book but it is frustrating to comprehend as I'm reading it. The pacing is still a bit on the slow side too but I am enjoying it overall
