Gurdjieff was such a lad. He and his buddy Pogossian got into a bar fight on the side of some sailors simply because there were less of them than the other party. They then proceeded to bond over drinks in broken Turkish and found out it was a bunch of Englishmen and hitched a ride on their vessel to Alexandria so he could search for a hidden city in the desert.

Book is getting increasingly interesting the more I read of it. Especially hilarious is Gurdjieff's assertion that Yezidis and Kurds cannot leave circles because they are devil worshippers, and his admittance to scamming town leaders out of money while working as a surveyor for a rail line.
