The Abbot stops Oak Tom from killing Blaggut and they all forgive each other.
Blaggut still leaves the Abbey and goes to live by the beach. In one of the earlier books, the main characters find a dead rat who lived by the sea. I wonder if it was Blaggut, but I don’t think the timeline matches up.

NOOOO BLAGGUT
OAK TOM IS GOING TO KILL HIM
The shrike has been gone for a while; I wonder if he’s going to show up again. If he does, he’s probably going to try to kill the hare. I doubt he will succeed; I don’t think this is the type of book to have one of the main characters be killed and their body impaled on a spike.

AAAAH BLAGGUT THE RAT IS SO NICE
he’s building little boats for the young Redwallers and is being so helpful.
I don’t want anything to happen to him like literally every other named rat is the series.
He’s not a bad guy, he’s just very simple and is led astray by an evil captain.

The Redwallers encounter a shrike!
Also called butcherbirds, shrikes are known for their habit of impaling their prey, such as mice, onto plant thorns to store them for later (and to attract the ladies).
The shrike says it won’t eat them, but it is also crazy, even by shrike standards.

Im kinda surprised that the characters were horrified when their enemy’s ship sank and the crew all drowned. Usually they seem to enjoy their enemies’ defeat.
I would’ve thought Joesph the Bellmaker especially would’ve been happy, considering that the crew were rats like the ones that enslaved him and his daughter Mariel.

First appearance of a sea otter in the franchise. The author’s description of the sea otter makes me think that he’s never seen one before. Unlike their river cousins, sea otters can’t move well on land, so it’s weird he’s walking like normal. Also, the otter lives near a desert when they typically live in colder seas. Plus, the cover artwork makes him look like a beaver, but that doesn’t really count.
