It’s giving… you had something really good going, a coherent story.. and then you went over the top, trying to do way too much when what you had was already good. I feel like Al-Waisty bit off too much to chew

Ah I was really into this book at first. I loved the atmosphere, the world building, the political and refugee perspectives. But the slow burn romance was executed poorly and confusingly to me. I’m disappointed with all that came after they went to weavingshaw. Fingers crossed the ending changes my mind.

Maybe I’m not paying enough attention towards the end, but the plot and character motivations aren’t always making sense to me. This dual section is a good example. Why wouldn’t st Silas say you need to let this kid or I’m releasing the info I have on you. Why would Martin check the crypts so quickly and why on earth would he think rami would find it

The romance is officially annoying me. I also don’t understand what either of their problems are. Just have sex already, what is the issue.

Okay the slow burn, the will they or won’t they, is getting slightly tired. When every interaction almost up to three hundred pages is the same push and pull, with the same unfinished end.. it can induce an eye roll or two. Either do it or don’t cause now you’re boring and annoying

I was nervous when introduced to Hargreaves perspective - thinking to myself, oh no this seems to be teetering into the ridiculous territory - but thankfully Al-Wasity proved me wrong. She has a good way of keeping you in and understanding the story, giving you just enough hints that you may see the breadcrumbs she’s laying

I’m really enjoying the perspective of a refugee

Oh wow, 26 pages in and I’m into it. The political undertones are riveting.
