Steel & coal magnates were driven to Hitler as bulwark against communist insurrections & the economic deprivations resulting from terms of Versailles Treaty. Author claims they mostly thought some of Hitler’s more radical positions, including anti-semitism, were mostly huffing & puffing to gain support. Not unlike politicians when they agreed to appoint Hitler chancellor thinking they’d be able to control him.
