I think it’s because this one (and Backhanded Compliments) kinda plops you in the middle of the action without getting to know the characters, so you’re getting introduced to the characters simultaneously to plot developing? Instead of plot developing after the characters (esp MC as our protag), which I think is the standard w writing?
Maybe I’m just tired and I should go to bed also
