First LOTR, now this… FMC classified North and South as “romantic fiction… deeply religious and full of saccharine sentiment”. Is that seriously all she got out of it? No class struggle? Nothing about politics or unions or trade? I’d hate to hear her opinion on Austen is this is what she thinks of Eliot.
