“Individualism is a myth that pases off disenfranchisement … as freedom” I don’t think any writing about identity has been so introspective

“Confusing visibility for dignity, and attention for acceptance” This has to be some of the most interesting writing about cultural identity I have ever read.

I’ll never get those 30 minutes back. Such vivid descriptions that were so much, my brain refused to hold to any of the sentences. It made me want to drop the book fully. But the sentence “He only has to make it through one life” just made it all shift.

Trying to decide if the writing in the third short story is provocative in an insightful character study way or just shock value.
