i appreciate how hobb writes battles as brief flashes of detail (a tent on fire, verity’s voice, kettricken’s fighting stance) and a terrible, confusing muddle of sensations. the fighting is rarely cathartic or even satisfying. she just conveys the incoherence of the adrenaline
