Authors make the error of thinking that "progressive" parents never punish their children, only make them "feel good about who [they are]." Completely untrue.

"Chasten" doesn't inherently mean "spank." The authors have a fundamental misunderstanding of the word here.

"I wasn't spanking, I was switching!" You were still striking a *baby* for doing something instinctive. Disgusting.

The "battle for control" begins when your child is a newborn and doesn't even have a will yet, just instincts? Wow. Eww.

"Decides" not to come? How do you tell the difference between being supposedly willful or is honestly distracted? How much time is the parent meant to take to actually do this, or is the emphasis so much on instant obedience that you're expected to just smack 'em regardless and hope you got it right?
