The start of the book was more compelling than the end of the book. The central themes were really resonant in the first 20-30 pages or so. I liked Ali’s writing, but I couldn’t help but think back to Baldwin and his description of love and longing. Perhaps they are trying to achieve different things (they probably are), but I was far more compelled by Baldwin.
