Okay, one con I do have of this book is that this shit will seemingly switch perspectives (and be a flashback) in a way that's so jarring. The good thing is that there isn't a huge cast of characters so you can grasp whats going on.

This book proves it better than most that how you say things makes all the difference. Absolutely phenomenal prose in this. I love this story too and how it seamlessly enters flashbacks all the time. The last few chapters have certainly been dark.

I'm reading this slow because it's for a book club (a month's time to read it) and...man, it definitely feels like one needed to just sink into. It's writing is fantastic. I think The Bluest Eye was snappier and again, since finishing it, hella impactive. This one wants to let you fall further into this and I can already suspect something real bad will happen.
