I hate both these characters. I am not longer intrigued and I just want this book to end.

How can this fool not at least be wary of Rachel after reading the letter?? Like c'mon!! And he is promising her all his family jewels when he legally becomes their owner.

As stupid as I think giving those pearls were to Rachel, at least Phillip got what we wanted in return (the fool). But the writing is absolutely fantastic. I wish though I could understand in which direction the story was headed.

Foolishness on Phillip's part to destroy that piece of paper? Only time will tell. But this is getting interesting. I feel like Rachel is definitely playing him.

I hope that Rachel actually scams him out of his pockets or something because Phillip is so dumb. I can understand that he may not after meeting Rachel feel the same hostility towards her as he did towards the idea of her & that's reasonable but as a reader you can see him tumbling into love with her. Settling a large allowance on her without any background check on her finance isn't smart. He should've started small
