A teaser...D. Michael Quinn is an impressive researcher. He gives so much more complete a picture of Mormon origins than I've read before. Although he's a believer himself, albeit an excommunicated one, he presents a lot of sources which paint a far more muddled, non-linear, beginnings story of the church structure and priesthood, whose official history is heavily revisionistic at the hands of Oliver Cowdery, Joseph Smith, Sidney Rigdon, and several other key members of the "American" religion's most inner circles...The Danites, Council of 50, and theocrats, oh my!
