Great read so far! Love hearing how crazy of a child Louie was and how his older brother used running to give him goals and pull his life together.
I also really enjoy reading stories from this era. Life was really really hard in these times. The Great Depression, just day to day things we enjoy today like a big meal or air conditioning were rare. Makes you appreciate your life more.

Louie trialed for the Berlin Olympics and made it. It was fun to hear how his hometown of Torrance was so supportive of him. His trip across the ocean via ship did not sound fun, but luxury was not a thing back then. He ran in the Olympics but did not win. His last minute efforts did get the attention of Hitler, who he would later meet.
He trains again then goes to war.
