I love Cara and this book is emotional and good but frustrating af. Who ends their marriage without trying therapy or even having a conversation? It’s not like anyone cheated or betrayed the other, they haven’t fallen out of love, they went through a trauma. Obviously they need therapy. This is such a duh moment.

Did their entire marriage revolve around his little brother? A fully grown adult?

Does he love her because of who she is or because of what she does for him? She takes care of his brother, she remembers when the taxes need filed, she is a great cook…come on, do better than that. WHO IS SHE?

Ugh, this narrator is so good. She acts it instead of just reading it, it’s a performance.

So he goes to group therapy and talks up a storm with strangers and when he’s home with his wife he grunts and gives one word answers. Frankly, should divorce him.

Is this going to be miscommunication heavy? Like if they just talked to each other everything would have been ok?

Sarah Mac Huh? You mean just ending it without a discussion—not even discussing whether to get counseling, just a human discussion like “wow, I hurt so much, please hold me so I can cry about ___”? Weird. That’s a lame folcrum for ending a loving ‘ship.

Kristina Yes, he signed a lease on a new apartment (maybe, she’s implying he has but I’m not sure anymore, perhaps it’s a lease on office space) and he’s walking away from an 8 yr marriage without even having a conversation about it. Let alone trying therapy. AND THEY BOTH LOVE EACH OTHER.

Kristina But it could all be a miscommunication and he’s not leaving at all.

Sarah Mac That’s so bizarre. I’d expect that kind of thing in those campy AI soap operas with titles like “He Slept With My Sister so I Liquidated His Business”, but this is a lit-fic type romance. 🤔

Kristina But it’s still gripping dammit.

Sarah Mac That’s the superpower of a quality author. 😂

Kristina It’s like the frustration is deliberate to make me keep reading.

Sarah Mac Been there. It really does feel like an addiction. 🫣
