Buck no longer merely adapts to nature; with Spitz’s death, his transformation seems to complete its cycle. Nature, instinct and intelligence have made him belong.

Buck’s adaptation reveals his intelligence, while his instincts show what is already in his blood—he seems born to survive. It’s becoming a thrilling read.

I shouldn’t compare this to C&P and should read it on its own. The first chapter moved very quickly, immediately contrasting Buck’s comfortable four years with his new reality. I have hopes for this one—and eventually I want to see how it compares with White Fang.
