I rescind my last update. I misread rhe dates. They would hsbd had access to both versions. Blasted dyscalculia. But not even listing Villeneuve as the original author of Beauty and the Beast and as a key player in French literary fairytales, boo.

They would have read Beauty and the Beast post Juvenalia. Villeneuve's was published in 1740's, and Beaumont's, which she references heavily, wasn't published until the 1750's or so. They would have read them later in life. And given their dates of death, it would have been Villeneuve's version not Beaumont's. So why is she focusing on Beaumont's version? Hopes being dashed.
