Again, the prose is fascinating and it reminds me of a piece of advice relating to writing; that the universal can be found in the details. In how a girl tied violets to her rifle, how another brought a suitcase full of candy to the front, how the linens in winter came up bloodied and how one woman, decades onwards, cannot bear to go into oak or birch forests, where she once buried the dead.
