I never really understood the Middle East until maybe 15 years ago, when I started reading more seriously about it because I realized how willfully ignorant I had been. So many Americans have very strong opinions about the region, while often knowing very little about how we arrived at the situation we’re in today. I’ll be very interested to see what you think of this book when you finish it.
