Things I did not know: Dean's mother encouraged him from a young age to recite poetry and play violin. Dean's middle name is "Byron," after the poet. His mother died at age 9, a loss Dean never recovered from ;they were very close. He lived on a small farm in Indiana--Fairmount--10 miles from where he was born in Marion. He was incredibly smart, but didn't apply himself; he enjoyed athletics and performed drama.
