That is the American way...to show up, to listen to, to leave this place better than we found it...Ordinary folks doing extraordinary things each day to build a more just and connected nation. To not be consumed by darkness or chaos...When the dark feels like it could consume us whole and turn us up and lose us, it is where we keep the light.

Love whom you want to love, marry whom you want to marry. I don't want you deciding that for me, and I don't want to be deciding that for you. These are choices to be celebrated individually, not limited by the government. Real freedom.

Hate speech begets hate crimes.

That's the thing about unbridled joy. It shows up in the places and in the moments when you least expect it.

All this unnecessary pain because a corporate healthcare executive was trying to put his competitor out of business and didn't seem to give a damn about the people he hurt along the way. That's the exact kind of thing I can't stand.

It is almost too evil to believe that not only did they [dioceses] get reports of these many thousands of abuse cases, but they recorded them for decades on end. And they did nothing about them. They made a point not to share their secret files with law enforcement.

When we first dug into the Catholic Church investigation that began under the prior Attorney General, we could tell right away that it was the tip of the iceberg, with an ever-growing number of victims...Our minds didn't have the capacity to imagine the degree of evil....Many victims didn't survive, taking their own lives as their despair proved too grave.

Show up in a community that's forgotten, listen to the people who don't get an audience, and carry their emotional burden around and get stuff done for them. Listen, feel, do.

The antidote to all the fear and division...is community connection.

To have the future we want, we need to create more of what we need. And in order to know what we need, we have to show up in our communities. We need to listen to our neighbors..The privilege of what we do is that we get to go into these communities and see neighbors selflessly helping neighbors, people working to better the lives of strangers. No one asks who you voted for before they get to work solving problems
