From halfway I felt much more of a story and actual narrative emerged and this pleased me. If you want to feed me philosophy then tell me a story wherein it is cleverly embedded in plot, character development and nuance. And the sensual, which Fyodor is quite caught up in.

There is a lot that is good to take in but I can’t agree to calling it a novel anymore than I would call Marcus Aurelius’s Meditations a novel. I’d call this Meditations or Confessions From Underground. I don’t see it as a story but a self unburdening.
