...if you generate a crowd of aggrieved people...in the tens of thousands, you better have something to say. If the best you can do is appeal to its higher sentiments, you won’t be standing on the dais for long. Does a crowd develop its own consciousness as it begins to sense its leadership’s inability to articulate what should be done? Who speaks for the crowd then, or does the crowd start to speak for itself?
