Finished the theater section. It is devasting how censorship ran rampant in a neocolonial society and mere expression of the native culture was an act of rebellion that could get you imprisoned. Depressing how even after independence, a so-called African government retains its imperial roots and eliminates national education+identity. I love this book so it pains me that I'm barely retaining the theater section 😭🔫

Getting through the section on theater has been difficult. It reminds me of when I was reading Hamlet and there was a play in the play displaying the original play. I understand the importance of the section here regarding theater, and that it plays a role in understanding a nation's history...but man I really didn't sign up to reading a play 😭
