A lot has happened in a 100 or so pages. I feel like the second half of "game 1" was rushed. Further, "Game 2" does not really make sense on how it is judged or the timing of it. Further, I cannot tell whether Game 2 is two parts given how the "Host" structures it.
Further, there seems to be an inconsistency with the remaining number of competitors: there should be only 30 by end of Game 2.1, but the count seems off

So since last time, we are introduced to the mysterious host and the contestants are thrown into the third game. I am unsure what to make of the character Jimmy Donaldson. Does he have nine lives? Is he still in the game? Hard to tell.

Talk about being blindsided. I think the self-insertion might be slightly clumsy at least with the introduction and "interview" stage of the characters.
Again, while it is not really explained, how does a "player" become the "One?" Do they just have to survive until the end or something else? The book makes note of previous attempts which kind of gives a sort of Stephen King The Long Walk kind of feel.

Just starting off, this book has a sort of Squid Games meets And then there were none1> with a touch of Running Man. The first few "introductory" chapters are relatively short where we are introduced to a whole swath of characters placed into "dangerous" situations with the hopes of winning and surviving in a world that is plagued with war, famine, global warning, etc.
