The first Steinbeck I’ve read and I can’t believe what I’ve been missing! I went in blind and savoured this book from the first to last word. Beautiful, visceral, and thoughtful as well as mythical, brutal and deeply life affirming - and throughout always drenched in compassion and tenderness, I’m so delighted and blown away!
