Absolutely riveting history so far. Of course, any book written in 1917 will need to be read with a critical eye, but so far everything stands on solid footing: his assessment of the 18th century's rapacious autocrats, his verdict on Louis XVI's character and excoriation of the idiot nobles who plagued his court.
