I guess the secret to holding Jared Diamond in high regard is to just read 'Guns, Germs and Steel' and 'Collapse' and ignore the rest of his books (although I will give The Third Chimpansee a try). 'Upheaval' was a disastrous read and this really isn't a lot better, resembling Malcom Gladwell's 'Outliers'. He's a living, walking minority complex in his repeated attempts to prove social sciences are also science.
