The summary is misleading . Much of the book is not about supernatural elements or about the screaming. The reader follows one student having somewhat normal issues of being pressured by her mother to be perfect in school. The other main character was sexually assaulted by her stepfather and is dealing with the trauma. The screaming becomes more important about 50% in. 75% in, these girls haven't even met each other.
