The author uses strangely modern phrases for a story set in historically accurate Netherlands, 1652. The MC observes a girl "knocking back a beer." I looked up the etymology of the phrase "knocking back [a drink]" and the first recorded use of that phrase is 1931. I fear I cannot look past the use of a phrase 300 years before it's time

Eek! Catrin has me stressing out. Two BROTHERS on romantic rotation? While working full time? Who has the time? Couldn't be me. This girl is so fickle

Catrin is way too enamored with this man Mathias. She's only known him for 3 weeks...... if this goes in the direction of accidental pregnancy, I'll be upset

Main character is stressing about moving from De Rijp to Amsterdam because it's so much further from home than De Rijp is. I know it's 1654 but girl that's only 36 minutes by car, you're fiiiine

Nat V ALWAYS!!!!! Maybe I'm too nitpicky but pleaseeeee I can't stand authors not doing their due diligence for era-accurate language. I don't think its a bad book (..........yet..............) but oof it grinds my gears when I see stuff like this lolol
