. I think he could be the culprit. I think he could have singled out Audrey Rose to befriend her to avoid suspicion. Thomas would have sniffed him out right away. Uncle too. Uncle is also not as approachable as Audrey Rose. So Audrey it is. I think this whole thing he had with her is a distraction to avoid him being a suspect. I think I am worrying. I think its one of the crew or the captain most likely.

I’m not sure if the culprit is or isn’t Mephistopheles. It is mostly due to his whole sleight of hand thing he had going on. On the one hand, it would be too obvious if it was him. He is saying to Audrey Rose, not everything is what it seems. On the other hand, it could be the opposite so to speak. He could be the killer but is trying to shift suspicions off of him.

Page 360 I went back an re read the letter from Houdini. No where does it say that it was to a lover. There is ink all over the letter. I think that Mephistopheles lied when he said that the ink was placed there accidentally or at the very least he was omitting the truth. He knew it was a letter to mom but didn’t say that. He should have let the relationship run it course if he thought it would end badly!
